c. 1873 Caucasian style silver covered Don Cossack Host kindjal dagger.

Description:

Completely covered with silver on the front, Caucasus horn grip in a traditional shape, decorated with chased and niellowed ornament. Wooden scabbard is also completely covered with silver (with an exception of an area on the back which is covered with black material) and decorated en suite with the hilt. Niello inscription on the back of the scabbard in Russian "КАВКАЗЪ" (Caucasus).

Markings: Arabic late 19th-early 20th century marking on the blade.
Silver stamps on the hilt and scabbard: 84 zolotnics silver mark, 1873 ?И - assayer's dated mark , Novocherkassk (Capital of Don Cossack Host) city mark, and "CK" maker's mark.

Condition: Very good original condition, showing some wear, the scabbard is missing it's customary acorn-shaped ending, the material on the back of the scabbard showing some deterioration. Minor crack on the back of the horn hilt.
