Early XIX century Caucasian style Russian Cossack Shashqua-type sword with silver mountings.
Description:
Slightly curved single edge hand-forged steel blade decorated with etched floral ornamentation which incorporate an image of a bird - symbol of Freedom . The traditional shape split pommel hilt is completely covered with silver exquisitely decorated with chased and niello ornamentation incorporating images of "Malta-type" crosses. The wooden black leather covered scabbard has silver fittings decorated en suite with the hilt. The original (rarely seen!) leather strap has silver fittings decorated in niello.
The sword shows very minor wear, and overall is in superb condition considering its age.
