19th century Cossack Shashqua "Islamic lock" type silver decorated sword with 17th century blade made in Circassia region of Caucasus.
Description:
The hilt consists of a black Caucasian horn grip and silver fittings profusely decorated with chased and nielloed floral ornamentation and "Circassian ribbon" trompe l'oeil decoration characteristic to Circassia region of Caucasus. The pommel has a silver cypher of Emperor Nicholas II attached to its center. The hilt is made in "Islamic Lock" fashin with a hilt completely outside of the scabbard. Black leather covered wooden scabbard has four silver fittings decorated en suite wth the hilt. Early 17th century highly curved high-quality hand forged blade is double-edged at the end quarter for armor piercing.
Consition: Shows some wear and patina on silver parts, but overall is in very good condition considering its age. Some minor corrosion on the blade.
