WW1 / Russian-Japanese war era Russian Imperial Army officer's dragoon saber with a badge of order of St. Anne 4th class for Gallantry.
Description:
Model 1881 Russian Imperial Army's dragoon saber. Slightly curved single edge steel blade decorated with etched image of the Tsar Nicholas II cipher on one side and the Russian Imperial eagle on the other and marked with the Arsenal markings of "A" and "Crowned A" and, in addition, factory mark "Zlatoust [Arms Factory]" with 1905 date. The hilt has a black painted wooden handle and brass fittings. The Nicholas II cipher on the pommel signifies that the owner received his first officer's rank during this Emperor's reign. The pommel has a brass enamel order of St. Anne 4th class attached (most likely of WW1 issue) and the cross guard is inscribed "For Gallantry" on both sides. The black leather covered wooden scabbard has brass fittings.
The saber shows some wear and patina on brass parts, the St. Anne badge lost some of its red enamel, but overall the saber is in very good condition considering its age. A great number of provided images should help you to fully assess the condition of this item.
